The Baton Rouge Site is one of the manufacturing facilities supporting the Honeywell Fluorine Products business, a $900 million business segment of Specialty Materials. The site has approximately 190 employees and currently manufactures a variety of products that support the refrigeration markets.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Provides HSE Leadership role and integrates HSE excellence programs into the plant processes to ensure the site is ready to receive RC14001 certification.
  • Maintains and continuously improves the site's regulatory compliance assurance process through overall direction of the safety, health, and environmental programs.
  • With assistance from SM Headquarters, HSE staff and his/her team anticipates regulatory impacts and develops & implements proactive strategies for compliance with legal and other requirements.
  • Drives critical HSE improvement programs, clearly and concisely communicates program progress, resource needs, to SM HSE and site Leadership.
  • Actively supports and participates in site's development of Annual Operating Plan and 5-year Strategic plan.
  • Establishes HSE objectives & metrics (including proactive measures) in alignment with company SM HSE plan.
  • Utilizes SM HSE Headquarters level resources and best practice exchanges to ensure best and most effective approaches to issue resolution.
  • Successfully integrates HS&E team and processes with operations and business segment enterprises to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements and required reporting.
  • Provides coaching and professional development to maintain HS&E team’s technical expertise - sets department and personal goals and reviews performance of staff members on a regular basis. Personally models exemplary behaviors.
  • Establishes & maintain a teamwork environment in support of customers and site teams.
  • Participates in advocacy activities at the community, legislative, regulatory and trade association to minimize impacts on plant goals.
  • Directs a strong structured safety process to drive a positive safety culture, insisting on consistent implementation of and adherence to policies and procedures. Ensure process is in place to create and maintain HSE procedures as required by the SM HSE Management System.
  • Supports and participates in Honeywell Operating System.
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies relative to HSE inspections, inquiries and associated corrective action plans.
  • Ensures timely and complete root cause investigation of all HSE incidents by the line organization and tracks timely closure of all HSE corrective actions. Create continuous improvement process to assess HSE events and their root causes and affectivity of corrective actions implemented.

  • Experience in managing in a Union environment.

Senior Loss Control Consultant (5/1/08)

SeaBright Insurance is looking for a Sr. Loss Control Consultant for our Louisiana territory. We are looking for an experienced loss control consultant to perform prospective and policyholder consultative visits. This involves obtaining and verifying information for specific coverage’s being provided (WC, USL&H, and MEL) and preparing detailed reports of findings using appropriate forms, photos, and consultative narrative reports to provide a clear understanding of complex operations. The candidate must be capable of preparing and providing custom training and presentations to groups. The position requires frequent contact with underwriting, claims, policyholders and insurance agents therefore strong verbal and written communication is essential.

Basic Function:

  • Provide Health, Safety, Security and Environmental leadership, direction, instruction, and technical expertise for Plant operations. Assure compliance to all State, Federal and company regulations. Scope includes data integrity and up-loads to company maintained computer data bases, accurate and on-timing reporting to agencies, internal reporting, auditing, accident investigation (Root Cause), instructional expertise, construction safety management, excellent communication and persuasion skills.

  • The HSSE Coordinator ensures that the plant operates in a safe manner through policy development and training within a team atmosphere. The policy of “No Accidents, No Harm to People, and No Harm to the Environment” shall be embraced by all employees, (inc. contract), that work at the plant.

Work with Team Members, Team Leaders, Team Facilitators, Engineering, contractors, Maintenance Technicians, and other company facilities. Coordinate all Safety Training, reporting (internal and external), Co-ops employee duties, and Plant HSSE Budget ($200K+). Maintain construction vendors vetting records. Provide critical HSSE review and assurance for new system compliance to safety criteria.

  • Support Plant Teams’ goals to provide a safe and effective workplace.

  • Maintain and ensure all air, wastewater, hazardous waste, solid waste, and Corps of Engineer Permits stay current and are in proper order. (Includes permits writing, permit condition compliance, and up-dates as required)

  • Work with and coordinate security mandates and direction from Agencies with the Plant FSO (Facility Safety Officer). This includes maintaining contract maintenance for Guard Service, Waste Disposal, consultants, and Instructional

  • Review all capital projects (CAPEX) to ensure safety hazards and environmental mitigation are identified and noted in the review process (PSS/PES). Provide support and expertise to the Project Manager to mitigate and/or communicate Safety and Environmental issues associated with the Project. (Team member to all Capital projects)

  • Work with the plant/corporate personnel to create strategies that ensure a safe and effective workplace. Engage, include, and communicate with Team members in developing and implementing strategies that achieve a safe and practice work place. (Safety creativity). Drive corporate HSSE agenda with local stakeholders.

Education / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree (prefer Science or Safety Engineer)
  • Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Inquisitive behavior with an ability to determine root cause given complicating factors.

Honeywell’s Specialty Materials division is looking for about 15% increase in yield per plant and they want to bring them all state-of-the-arts.
